Unexpected Damage : Briggs & Stratton Elite Series 30470 8,750 Watt Briggs & Stratton 2100 Series OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit
I recently purchased a Briggs & Stratton 8750 Elite generator. I purchased the generator based on a consumer Reports review that rated the generator with the same ratings for noise and power quality as the Honda Eu3000is, which is widely recognized as the most trustworthy and quiet generator on the market.
When I started the new Briggs, the noise level was incredibly high - 3 or 4 times louder than the Honda Eu3000is (which I also own). The voltage flickered when I ran the generator exhibiting an unstable voltage output.
I sent consumer Reports a letter explaining my problem with the generator and their review. - I received back a kiss-off form reply - so no help there...
I had run the generator less than 50 hours when, running under a low load, it quit generating power.
I went on-line and found that Briggs offers no factory technical reserve or repair. I found a Briggs authorized generator fix factory about 50 miles from San Diego and gave them a call. The repairman I talked to immediately started talking about Briggs not honoring the warranty if I had overloaded the generator by "running an air conditioner". It was very clear that he wanted me to bring in the generator for some expensive fix work. When I asked him about cost, he became most slippery. I truly had to press him to get the riposte of, "$35 to $700".
I removed the circuit board (4 screws) and called Briggs with the part in-hand. I relayed all the Id data on on the part, along with the Serial amount of the part, and the gal could Not give me the part number. She said that she would e-mail me a Pdf file parts list and I could pick-out the part myself. I received an e-mail with the Url to the file which was incorrect.
I my humble opinion, the top and best use for this generator will be for a small synthetic reef. Please, "Caveat Emptor"!!
Conclusion: Do Not Buy A Briggs!!!
